USA Fashion by Decade
Despite the fact that fashion trends come and go and come back and go again, some looks will always be inextricably linked to the time period in which they first gained popularity. Let’s reflect on some of the most prominent fashion styles from each era.
1920’s-The Cloche Hat & Flapper Style
The Roaring Twenties were a time of growth and change. The post-war world desired something free and informal since it was sick of the outdated, restrictive fashion. The flapper dress was this decade’s most recognizable fashion style. The loose drop waist design combined with embellishments brought out the period’s excess. This, combined with a basic headband and a short bob hairdo, showed how youth were taking charge and that they want to feel confident and gorgeous.
1930s-Gowns & Puffy Shoulders
Hollywood started its journey in the 1930s. Films and the movie industry’s stars had an impact on this era’s fashion. The “feminine silhouette” became more prevalent in 1930s fashion. Dress length decreased to ankle length after the 1929 stock market crash, although they tightened and became more tailored to each woman. However, gowns, wide pants, and puffy sleeves started to become more famous.
1950’s-Evening Gowns
The 1950s are the following decade, and they featured gorgeous, swinging skirts with a new silhouette called the hourglass. As new materials like tulle and chiffon were used, the skirts became significantly broader and emphasized the waist. During this time, tea-length dresses were becoming incredibly trendy. Elegant evening gowns and coat dresses also became very popular in this era.
1960’s-MINI Skirt
Miniskirts were a major advancement during this decade. Hemlines had increased dramatically, which also included baby doll and twiggy dresses that other celebrities frequently wore. This outfit included knee-high boots or clunky heels. At the time, vivid colors were also quite in.
1970’s-Bell Bottom
Women wore graphic t-shirts, bell-bottom pants, tunic tops, and dresses in the granny or hippie style during the 1970s. They would put on blazers, silk-bow blouses, and dress slacks (or pantsuits) to go to work. Some women opted to dress in jumpsuits for a night out. Top-worn knit vests were also very popular.
1980’s-Neon Colors
The 1980s were recognized for their bold and occasionally bizarre fashions. This era was known for its shoulder pads, neon shades, leg warmers, denim, and leggings with tunics,s and parachute pants. Fashion at this time was greatly inspired by pop culture and music.
1990′s-Sheer Slip Dress
The 1990s era was a fusion of minimalism and grunge. Fannel shirts, ripped jeans, oversized sweaters, and slip dresses.
2000-Tracksuits
In this era trends like Denim miniskirts, halter tops, low-rise jeans, capri pants, velour tracksuits, and the rise of hip-hop-inspired fashion.
2010-Skinny Jeans
However, the most recognizable style era had to be about 2014. Band t-shirts, skinny jeans, bodycon dresses, t-shirts with lots of logos, and of course, denim shorts worn with black tights.
2020-Tie Dye
In this era, the trends were Tie dye, leggings, crop tops, sweatpants, squared heels, and pajama for a day
