Overview
The CFDA Fashion Awards, which celebrate excellence in fashion design, were established in 1980 and presented with their first prizes in 1981. The Council of Fashion Designers of America founded the CFDA Fashion Awards as a planned occasion. They celebrate and highlight the top-notch fashion design in America. Since then “the Oscars of fashion” has been used. The Coty Awards, which existed before the CFDA Awards were created and were last handed in September 1984, served a similar purpose until they were discontinued in 1985. The CFDA Awards decided to welcome up-and-coming and young designers in 1997.
Celebrities from the worlds of fashion and entertainment flocked to Cipriani South Street in downtown Manhattan last year in November for the annual event celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Attendees clapped for a mixture of both as they honored sartorial icons and young dreamers because fashion is frequently a mirror that reflects both where we are right now and where we’ve been.
The winners and honorees of the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards were celebrated by the Council of Fashion Designers of America [CFDA] in partnership with Amazon Fashion at Cipriani South Street at Casa Cipriani in Manhattan. Natasha Lyonne hosted the event that night. To commemorate the CFDA’s 60th birthday, the awards were co-hosted by members Joseph Altuzarra, Gabriela Hearst, Aurora James, Lazaro Hernandez, and Jack McCollough.
Winners of CFDA USA Fashion Awards 2022
Catherine Holstein of KHAITE received the American Womenswear Designer of the Year award from Christina Ricci.
Emily Adams Bode Aujla of Bode received the American Menswear Designer of the Year award from Trevor Noah.
Raul Lopez of LUAR was named the American Accessory Designer of the Year by Joel Kim Booster.
Elena Velez was given the American Emerging Designer of the Year award by Keke Palmer.
The Bradley Cooper-presented award for Fashion Icon went to Lenny Kravitz.
Kim Kardashian, Emma Grede, and Jens Grede accepted SKIMS’s first Amazon Fashion Innovation Award from Martha Stewart, who was introduced by Muge Erdirik Dogan.
In honor of Eugenia Sheppard, Cher gave Patti Wilson the Media Award.
Cher and Jesse Jo Stark presented Richard Stark of Chrome Hearts and Laurie Lynn Stark of Chrome Hearts with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
By way of Andrew Bolton, Anna Wintour gave the Founder’s Award in memory of Eleanor Lambert.
Kerry Washington presented Law Roach with the first Stylist Award.
Prabal Gurung, Laura Kim, Phillip Lim, Tina Leung, and Ezra William were among the Slaysians from The House of Slay who received the Positive Social Influence Award from Eva Chen.
The Environmental Sustainability Award was given to The United Nations by Amber Valletta, and Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of The United Nations, accepted it.
The Special Anniversary Award was given to Jeffrey Banks by Stan Herman.
Shannon Abloh collected the posthumous Board of Trustee’s Award on behalf of her late husband, Virgil Abloh, in one of the most poignant scenes of the evening.

Upcoming CFDA 2023
The 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards will be held on Monday, November 6, according to a statement made on June 1 by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
The USA Fashion Awards CFDA 2023 will take place at American Museum of Natural History in New York in its 42 years history.
